# Create a Sales Opportunity in HubSpot

## A Sales Opportunity represents a potential home sale and should be created when a buyer expresses interest in purchasing a home.

There are two ways to create a Sales Opportunity in HubSpot:

1. [**During Contact Creation**](https://hubspot.claytonpropertiesgroup.com/knowledge-base/create-a-sales-opportunity-in-hubspot#contact)
2. **[For an Existing Contact](https://hubspot.claytonpropertiesgroup.com/knowledge-base/create-a-new-sales-opportunity?hsLang=en)**

### Option 1: Create a sales opportunity during contact creation

During [Contact Creation](https://hubspot.claytonpropertiesgroup.com/knowledge-base/hubspot-how-do-i-create-a-contact?hsLang=en),  there will be a question: **"Is this a Sales Opportunity?"**

- Select **Yes** to automatically create a new Sales Opportunity.
- Select **No** if you are only creating contact records.

After creating the contact, HubSpot will automatically create and associate the Sales Opportunity with the contact.

 

### How do I verify the opportunity was created?

Once created, the Opportunity appears in the **Opportunities (Deals)** section on the right side of the contact record. If it is not visible immediately, wait up to 30 seconds and refresh the page.

Keeping Sales Opportunity records accurate gives your team a clear view of the pipeline and helps everyone serve buyers more effectively.

 

## Option 2: Create a sales opportunity for an existing contact

If the contact already exists in HubSpot, you do not need to create a new contact record. Instead, open the existing contact and use the steps in **[Create a New Sales Opportunity for an Existing Contact](https://hubspot.claytonpropertiesgroup.com/knowledge-base/create-a-new-sales-opportunity?hsLang=en)** to add the Opportunity directly from the contact record.
